When Laboratory Manager Alexander Visotin was validating one of the laboratory’s oil analysis methods using the ASTM standard, he concluded there was a problem with the standard. He contacted the Chair of the Standards Committee who, following their own investigation, concurred that the standard needed updating.

The standard in question is the Standard Test Method for Extraction and Derivatization of Vegetable Oils and Fats from Fire Debris and Liquid Samples with Analysis by Gas Chromatography- Mass Spectrometry (E2881-18). We await the updated standard.
