Peter Jeffrey presents at NSW Association of Fire Investigators Education Night

10 Oct 2019

The ability for an investigator to correctly detect ignitable liquids at a fire scene is crucial when determining the cause of a fire.

Typically, dogs have been used to help detect suspected ignitable liquids yet increasingly hand-held electronic devices, Photoionization Detectors (PIDs), are being adopted in place of detailed forensic investigation and testing.

Earlier this month, Forensic Fire Examiner, Peter Jeffrey, gave a talk to the NSW Association of Fire Investigators about PIDs: the pros and cons, whether they assist the fire investigator or lead to poor practices, and how they compare to other tools and procedures.
